Signing up for too many affiliate programs can be very tempting. You’re under the notion that the more affiliate programs you are promoting, the more money you can make. Maybe you’ve just found another great affiliate product or service and signed up for your 14th affiliate program. New profit potential may be exciting to you but in the near future, this is going to cause more havoc than affiliate profits.

You may run a good content blog and you figure that offering many different products to your visitors may entice them to purchase but you are actually wrong. Your readers need to hear about a product or service more than once before they even consider buying it. Did you know that most buyers only purchase a product after mulling about it? People like to know why they must have this product especially if it’s an online purchase. With the internet, it’s too easy for people to bookmark it and forget about it. Then there are those who bookmark it and go back and forth for a period of time before committing to the product or comparing prices elsewhere. If you blog on a daily basis, it can be confusing to your readers when they see a new product each day or week with your different affiliate links.

Not only will numerous affiliate links to different programs be confusing to your visitors but it can also be confusing for you. Keeping track of more than a handful of affiliate programs needs a lot of organization on your end. With too many login identifications, passwords and keeping track of sales or leads can be overly time-consuming. Most affiliates use a spreadsheet that is customized for their own use and by sticking with one affiliate program can prove successful sooner than later.

Most bloggers stick with a superior affiliate program where they can choose merchants that mix in well with their niche blog. If you work on promoting your affiliate products on a consistent basis, you will see more results. Visitors need to see that they can take your word on product recommendations. If you are recommending everything under the sun, you and your blog could lose credibility. Even if you find your commission trackings are small to begin with, always stick with it. Affiliate marketing can take up to 6 months before you see a consistent profit from it.

In your spreadsheet, do make sure to write the percentage or rate that each merchant offers with sale or lead. Keep track of your profits to ensure that the amount is correct. Stick with a percentage that you would like to earn from your affiliate program and stay with it. If you are only signing up for affiliate programs due to the high payout structure, you are pursuing your products the wrong way. Always match your affiliate product or service with your readers or you’ll find that nobody is going to buy fishing equipment when you blog about home decor.
